"We're elves from the North Pole and we have a special delivery," said one student after Alyssa Vanden Bosch came out to greet them. She quickly called for her children, Suzi, 3, and Timothy, 1.
The wooden rocking motorcycle was set on the front porch with the two children, a bit shy at first, but eventually eager to give it a try.
"This is so awesome. Thank you so much. They are going to love this," said Vanden Bosch. "I just think it's a great thing you guys do."
Santa and the elves couldn't stay long. They had 19 more stops to make that night delivering their handmade toys.
Making the wooden rocking motorcycle toys has become a tradition for Matt Melvin's woods classes. This year, they delivered 20 more toys bringing the total to 240 wooden rocking toys made over the years.
"It's something we do every year. This year instead of having the families come to pick up the toys, we thought it would be fun to deliver them," said Melvin.
The toys are ride-on rocking motorcycles complete with a TK license plate on the back.
"It's good to give back and it's good to be able to put some smiles on the faces of the kids. It's fun," said sophomore Landon Cousineau.
Construction of this year's 20 toys started after Thanksgiving and students volunteered to help. Students agreed the hardest part about making the toys was the hours and hours of sanding needed on each one.
"It's worth it," said sophomore Dylan Bates. "I like seeing them smile."
Melvin said the deliveries are made possible by wood donations from Wolverine Hardwoods.
