Their films were among 35 films submitted from students throughout West Michigan. The top finalists were invited to a red-carpet viewing party of the films and announcement of winners.
There were very specific guidelines for the short films. Films had to be between 3 and 6 minutes. Each film also had to include at least two of these five prompts: 1) Open with an extreme close-up 2) Film the entire film in one room 3) Include the line “How much of that did you hear?” anywhere in the film 4) Shoot a table scene 5) Include a cell phone as a prop.
The first place winner received a $4,000 scholarship, with second and third places each earning $1,000. The rest of the top films received a $500 scholarship. Ava came in fourth place, missing third place by two-tenths of a point. Cameryn took fifth place and Gavin received 10th place.
Digital media teacher Jerry Robinson said he is extremely proud of all of the students for their work on the films and thanked substitute Jenna VanEnk for her work with the students for half of the semester while he was on an extended leave.
