At Central Michigan University, the band brought home first place in Class B. In addition the TK rhythm section was named the outstanding section and drummer Journie Scheltema was named honorable mention Class B drummer.
A few weeks later the band attended the Alma College festival. Out of 23 bands, the TK Jazz Band rhythm section again was named the outstanding section and Scheltema was selected as the outstanding drummer in Class B. Lead alto saxophone player Haden Bovee was named as the festival outstanding soloist.
The TK Jazz Band rhythm section includes Scheltema, Tag Fortuna, Parker Stewart, and Tessa Wenger. The band is directed by Ray Rickert.
