As they entered under the “Pride, Class, Tradition” sign at the stadium, Tommy Trojan - the school mascot, greeted everyone and all posed for a special senior photo. Parents served breakfast and treats for the day.
Sitting on blankets, groups of students spread out around the field as the sun began to rise. Many said they like this opportunity to have a chance to be together before starting their final year of school - something to make them feel special. They laughed and joked, did cartwheels, and posed for picture after picture with Class of 2026 props. Many came in hand-painted “Class of 2026” blue jeans or their well-worn TK hoodies and t-shirts.
Before heading off to classes they all stood together in a circle around the Trojan emblem on the field - for one memorable last, first-day photo.
Once school started, seniors gathered with the rest of the high school population for an opening day assembly. Shouting, “V-I-C-T-O-R-Y, that’s our Trojan battle cry,” the seniors taught freshmen the jug yell and sang along to the fight song, played by the marching band.
Principal Tony Petersen reminded the Class of 2026 that this is their last year and to really think about the legacy they want to leave at TK. He also encouraged all high school students to make the most of their time at TKHS.
“Make a difference. Make it a better place. This is your opportunity to make an impact. Choose to leave a positive legacy.”
The tradition of the Senior Sunrise started with the Class of 2022. At the end of the school year, they’ll have the opportunity to gather again on the field celebrating their senior sunset.
