Benjamin retired after the 2015 cross country season after serving as varsity coach for 23 years and middle school coach for four years. She also served as varsity track coach for 19 years and middle school track coach for two years.
During her tenure, she amassed an amazing record of 2,141 wins, 571 losses.
Her list of honors and achievements is equally impressive. She was inducted into the MITCA Track/Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2014; the 2006 Michigan High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year; 2006 National High School Coaches Association Sectional Coach of the Year, and 2007 National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year finalist. She was a three-time state coach of the year and was honored with the Ambrose Award, MITCA's highest honor.
As a coach, she led teams to 11 league championships, four regional championships, three state championships, 11 team state qualifiers, and had a team of individuals qualify for the state finals every year she coached. She also coached nine all-state athletes.
"It's very, very nice. I'm very honored," said Benjamin.
Girl's coach Sam Wilkinson and boy's coach Josh Reynolds, along with students on the boy's and girl's teams, displayed a new banner with Coach B that will welcome teams to the cross country invitational next fall.
