Several thousands of dollars in scholarships and numerous awards were handed out to deserving Thornapple Kellogg High School students at Tuesday’s Honors Night.

Engineering fields are still typically a male-dominated world, but a couple of Thornapple Kellogg High School female students are debunking the myth the classes are only for males and they’re hoping their successes lead to more females in these classes.

The TK District Art Festival will showcase student talent, creativity, and craftsmanship from students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The Sunday, May 22 event is open from noon to 3 p.m. in the high school. Artwork from all grade levels will be displayed in the Main Street area of the high school. There will be face painting and artwork for sale. Woodworking, engineering, and architecture projects will also be displayed. The high school concert choir performs at 2 p.m. and the honors choir at 3 p.m. Please plan to attend and see TK talent on display.

An auditorium filled with high school students could never have been more quiet, still, and solemn as Thornapple Kellogg High School's Thursday afternoon. Everyone knew the horrific three-car crash outside Thornapple Kellogg High School was staged and that Hanna McCrath wasn't really killed or Jacob Gipe really sent to prison for drunk driving.

Michigan Insurance & Financial Services, through their MIAFS Gives Back educational grant initiative, presented  TKHS Music Director Ray Rickert with a check for $500. Rickert said funds will be used to  purchase music stands and other supplies.
