Interviews today might not have landed Thornapple Kellogg High School seniors any jobs now, but teachers hope the experience they gained will help them get the jobs they want in the future.

Two Thornapple Kellogg High School students, Trevor Hummer and Kaden Hamming, will advance to the National Competition and Convention after earning state championship honors last weekend.

One by one, Page Elementary fourth-graders used their gloved hand to feel a blackened pig’s lung and watch as a high school student inflated the lung using a foot pump. One side of the lung plumped easily while the other side was used to show the effects of tobacco on the lungs.

Thornapple Kellogg Schools welcomed Odyssey of the Mind teams from around the state this weekend for the state finals. Not only did TK Host the event, the district had seven teams competing at the state level and advanced one high school team to the World Finals Word Finals at Iowa State University in May.

Several Thornapple Kellogg athletes earned All-Conference honors this year. In all, TK has 20 athletes earning All-Conference honors in winter sports and three more receiving honorable mention.

Thornapple Kellogg High School’s student section exploded into cheers when the first basket of Friday’s game was made and it wasn’t even for the home team.

Four Thornapple Kellogg students will have their artwork displayed on banners in Middleville this spring. The students submitted original artwork to the “Art in the Air” banner contest sponsored by the Thornapple Arts Council and the Middleville DDA.

Thornapple Kellogg High School students are preparing for the spring musical “Into the Woods.” There will be three performances at the high school auditorium. Performances will start at 7 p.m. each night March 3, 4, and 5 and pre-sale tickets are now available to order.

Thornapple Kellogg High School was well represented with three student films among the top 15 in the Compass College of Film and Media High School Short Film Festival. Ava Hess, Gavin Czarnecki and Cameryn Ames each were named to the top 15 in the contest and earned $500 scholarships to Compass College.

After a year off because of COVID, Thornapple Kellogg Odyssey of the Mind teams stepped up this weekend in a big way advancing seven of the district’s nine teams to the state finals including three TKHS teams.
