Adalyn Cook has a need for speed but unlike many of her family members who love the thrill of race car driving, Adalyn prefers a different kind of horsepower. Her preference is the more natural kind of horsepower.

Mia Dickman has sorted rooms filled with toys to give away at Christmas, planned the annual roofsit to raise funds for a community organization, hauled wheelbarrows full of mulch to spread at YMCA Camp Algonquin and helped teach younger students about philanthropy. And that’s just the short list of her many volunteer efforts.

Friday wasn’t a normal day of classroom lessons and hitting the books at TKHS. Instead, students rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on lessons about helping others, being good citizens within a community and giving back in different ways.

Interviewing for a job can be a stressful experience for anyone and especially for students who haven’t had much, if any, experience. With the help of a host of volunteers from area companies and agencies, Thornapple Kellogg High School students got the chance to practice their skills and prepare for their future.

Several members of the Thornapple Kellogg High School Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) presented lessons to Page Elementary fourth graders to make healthy lifestyle choices and stay nicotine free.
