Although their smiles were still hidden behind face masks, the laughter from a group of students playing “Apples to Apples” was a sure sign they were having fun. Sounds of students singing karaoke in a nearby classroom echoed down the hallways and into the classrooms.

TKHS students Caedon Zube and Kaden Hamming qualified for the national BPA competition after achieving high marks at the state contest. TKHS student Gavin Denman also is serving as a state officer this year and was an important part of the BPA state virtual conference. He will also be attending the virtual national conference as a voting delegate.

Ellie Essenberg has received one of the state’s Odyssey of the Mind scholarships. She has been a member of OM teams for eight years and an unofficial coach for four years. “I poured my heart and thousands of hours into Odyssey of the Mind which led my teams and I to compete in three world finals competitions. The friends that I made and the skills that I built over those eight years are the reason that I am who I am today,” said Ellie.

The TKHS National Honor Society toy drive for Helen DeVos Children's Hospital was a huge success. Several handmade blankets, piles of coloring books, numerous boxes of crayons and colored pencils, dolls, toys and games will all help lift the spirits of young patients while they stay at the hospital. Thornapple Kellogg High School will present the musical “The Addams Family Jr.” March 3, 4, 5 and 6. Each show starts at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Even in these difficult times, TK students and this TK community showed overwhelming generosity again! TKHS Student Council conducted a food drive recently with all items to be donated to Barry County United Way or the local food pantries in Barry County. In one week, students brought in 1,892 food items and donated $1,295.45 in cash.

Student-made deck chairs are lined up in a row in the TK High School wood shop. In another corner, a line of cutting boards are being sanded, oiled and packaged for sale. Both projects, made by woods students in the production class, will benefit a new TKHS mountain bike club
