This year’s TKHS fall play is “Pride and Prejudice” based on the novel by Jane Austen. Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.

It is a swim tradition mostly reserved for the guys. Guys gather with hair buzzers and Bic razors to shave their heads (and sometimes more) for high school conference and state championship meets – doing whatever it takes to shave even a hundredth of a second off their times.

The TKHS golf team earned an 8th-place finish at the state finals. The team was led by Paige Willette who tied for 41st individually during the two-day event.

The Thornapple Kellogg High School soccer team won the district championship defeating Plainwell 3-2.

Thornapple Kellogg High School senior Kaylyn Beard has been named a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student.

Being careful not to make skin contact with poison ivy vines or slip down the bank to the Thornapple River below, Thornapple Kellogg High School Student Council members helped clear unwanted vines, trees, shrubs and weeds along the Paul Henry Thornapple Trail. They piled limbs and vines and shrubs high into waiting Middleville Village dump trucks.

Drive into the Thornapple Kellogg High School parking lot after school hours and you might be surprised by the artwork filling many of the parking spaces. There’s a 3-D design of a dragon popping out of a painted hole in the asphalt, a football field adorned with a senior’s name and graduation year, words of inspiration “Throw Kindness Around Like Confetti” and a clever “If Yer Reading This – I’m Late. Woops!” saying painted on a bright yellow background.

The Thornapple Kellogg High School Science Department will be gaining some new equipment next year thanks to a grant award through the Barry Community Foundation. The Wilson H. Craig Jr. Fund awarded the district $2,632 to purchase eight new electronic balances for the science programs. Tim Penfield, co-department chair at TK, said the balances will help adequately equip the science rooms with balances and give students ample opportunities to use the scales during classroom projects.
