Thornapple Kellogg High School junior Emma VanSprange recently received a Certificate of Excellence from the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. She was selected as a representative to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders and attended a three-day academy at UMass just outside of Boston this summer.

Thornapple Kellogg High School senior Turner Halle was recently recognized as a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship program.

Just two days after students were reminded at the 9-11 ceremony about the value of service to others, a group of high school students took part in the United Way Day of Caring. Scattered throughout the village of Middleville, TKHS Student Council members pulled weeds and cleared landscaping beds in the village. They transplanted bushes, swept away dirt and debris and put a polished look on the downtown area.

The Thornapple Kellogg middle and high school students gathered at the Middleville 9-11 Patriot Day ceremony were called "heroes," but challenged with two important tasks - to never forget the 9-11 events and to continue selfless acts of service to others.

Friday night's homecoming festivities included the introduction of the homecoming court and crowning of the king and queen. When senior Derrick Kim was announced as the homecoming king, he looked shocked and didn't exactly know what to do. A minute later, Madison Hess, leaped into his arms when she was named the homecoming queen. Other senior members of the court were Nathan Kinne and Shylin Robirds, and Dylan Podbevsek and Delaney Zoet. The junior representatives were Haley Bovee and Aiden Hannapel. Sophomore representatives were Brennan Lutz and Kylie Smith and the freshmen representatives were Jeffrey Walker and Chloe Powers. Congratulations to everyone for representing their classes and TKHS.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - and Valentine's Day and Halloween and the 4th of July! Thornapple Kellogg High School students will "celebrate" all the holidays in one week as part of this year's homecoming theme of Homecoming Holidays.

Colson Brummel didn't remember Lee Elementary School being so small. "I kind of feel like a giant," said the TKHS junior as he walked down the hall where he once attended second and third grades. But that was a few years ago and now Brummel and his friends are coming back to their elementary school as role models for younger students. Members of the TKHS football team are volunteering time to be with Lee students on the playground, interact with them, and just show them good sportsmanship and good leadership.
