When nearly 1,000 high school students become so quiet you can hear a pin drop, you know something important has their attention. Monday morning’s annual TK and Community Veterans Day program got their attention and their respect for the veterans attending. When a moment of silence was requested for all veterans who never made it home, there wasn’t a sound until two trumpets echoed “Taps.”

TK bragging rights are one the line in the annual Battle of the Buildings Nov. 13. Members from each building within the district will compete in fun (and sometimes goofy) basketball competitions.

Thornapple Kellogg High School inducted 68 new members into the Elizabeth Thurber Chapter of the National Honor Society Monday night. The six seniors and 62 junior classmen bring the chapter total membership to 120.

Will be heldat 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at TKHS Gymnasium.

This year’s TKHS fall play is “Pride and Prejudice” based on the novel by Jane Austen. Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.

It is a swim tradition mostly reserved for the guys. Guys gather with hair buzzers and Bic razors to shave their heads (and sometimes more) for high school conference and state championship meets – doing whatever it takes to shave even a hundredth of a second off their times.

The TKHS golf team earned an 8th-place finish at the state finals. The team was led by Paige Willette who tied for 41st individually during the two-day event.

The Thornapple Kellogg High School soccer team won the district championship defeating Plainwell 3-2.

Thornapple Kellogg High School senior Kaylyn Beard has been named a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student.
